Shot Peening is the most versatile life cycle enhancement process existing for metal component. It is a cold working process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer and modify mechanical properties of metals. Its entails impacting a surface with spherical shaped media (round metallic, glass or ceramic particles) with force sufficient to create plastic deformation. The process can increase the lifetime of metal components 5 to 100 times more, sometimes even negate mechanical failure.
